'Elegant but not stuffy' best describes the atmosphere you'll discover on board Braemar. Expansive windows, large open decks and terraces, as well as a spectacular five-deck atrium create a sense of space noticeably absent from so many of today's cities that go to sea. Enhancing the stylish mood are polished woods and gleaming brass, set off by gentle lighting and rich fabrics in soft, tasteful hues.
Surrounded by ocean views on three sides, this chic salon is enhanced by cream and beige striped wall coverings, accentuated by a shimmering gold overlay, toning with sycamore veneer panelling. The 380 mocha-coloured chairs blend impercebtibly with the specially commissioned carpet - highlighted by a thistle flourish. A diffused opalescence from stylish cone-shaped wall-lights envelopes the tables of 2,4, 6, 8 and 10. The raised central section is separated from the surrounding tables by an opaque glass balustrade proudly emblazoned with an etched thistle motif.
Plucked from the pages of a Somerset Maugham novel, the tropical-style mood of this room is captured by a profusion of Kentia palms and the wood-grained surround of the large oval buffet. The pale-blue and aqua plaid curtains set off two specially-commissioned murals, while the wood and terracotta-tiled floor accentuates elegantly carved Italian chairs. With panoramic views, this al fresco room brings a refreshing ambience to breakfast and lunch. Service in the Palms Café is Buffet Style at all times.
This sophisticated lounge, seating 170 guests, is the venue for port lectures, classical music performances and occasional dancing. The design of the tub chairs and banquettes in indigo blue, enhanced by a sheen finish, is contrasted by the specially-commissioned coral carpet with shell design. The dancefloor mirrors the carpet with a contrasting inlay of blonde woods.
Spanning the entire width of the ship this elegant venue for morning coffee and afternoon tea exudes a homely feel, enhanced by its navy and racing green tartan carpet with resplendent gold motifs. Midnight-blue and gold chairs along with contrasting sofas in gold and bronze enrich the aura of tranquillity while the cleverly-designed bar with conical green leather stools is as congenial as it is stylish.
All around, a spectrum of vibrant and subtle yellows is enriched by pastel terracottas. The shimmering stage backdrop illuminates the oval dance floor and spectacular cabaret, while the honey-gold walls create a contemporary pastiche. Restrained yellow-tinted rope-and-trellis patterned carpets blend with brandy-toned tinges in this elegant room.
Braemar's late-night spot, with its Italian-designed tub chairs and comfy banquettes, is as intimate as any at sea. Detailed in deep ocean blues and bold orange hues, this room is dominated by an attractive bar crafted from dark blue stone. Glass doors lead onto a sculptured terrace for dancing under the stars, while optional partitions ensure privacy for small cocktail parties.
Adjacent to the four-deck atrium with its trompe l'oeil panels, the Library on Bridge Deck overflows in rich tones of reds and russets. This restrained room surrounded by glass-fronted bookcases, has mahogany tables and chairs as well as a small sofa.
For the more energetic there's a fully equipped fitness centre with weights, rowing machines, treadmills, stepping machines and cycling machines and a large dance studio with a fully trained aerobics and fitness instructor. To wind down afterwards the fitness centre also includes sauna and solarium.
Whether relaxing on a poolside lounger, having an invigorating jacuzzi, an energetic swim or just splashing about in the water, the swimming pool is sure to be a major attraction.
From stylish fashion and famous name perfumes to those everyday essentials and gifts you're sure to want to keep; the shops on board offer a wide range of products.
Braemar has her very own Internet Centre allowing access to the World Wide Web for her passengers. Access to the Internet is chargeable with the purchase of a "smart card" from Reception. The smart card is charged with a period of time, usually 30 minutes, and it is inserted into a card reader on the computer which then allows access to the Internet. If you have an Internet based email account these can easily be accessed from the ship. If you do not have one currently then they can be set up before you cruise. They recommend Yahoo Mail, which is very simple to set up. Full instructions on how to set up email accounts are on board and the ship has also been running "Internet Master Classes" for passengers.
Why not see if lady luck is smiling on you with a quiet game of Blackjack or Roulette in their casino.
