Entertainment for Kids Onboard

Author - Virgin Holidays Cruises

It’s important to us that everyone gets the most from their holiday. We like to unleash all kinds of mojos by keeping everyone happy, relaxed and entertained. With so much going on, you don’t need to worry about the kids being bored while they’re onboard.

Cruises are the ultimate holiday for all the family. There’s a huge selection of activities where our younger guests have the freedom to make new friends and have more fun than they ever imagined!

We’d hate for you to be worried about losing your little treasures while you’re aboard and, while our cruise ships are large (especially to little ones), they are also well-staffed with our great crew having the safety of even the youngest passenger as a priority.

We’d hate for you to be worried about losing your little treasures while you’re aboard and, while our cruise ships are large (especially to little ones), they are also well-staffed with our great crew having the safety of even the youngest passenger as a priority.

Many onboard activities designed with kids in mind are overseen by staff, making sure they can splash around or play to their heart’s content in a safe environment.

Safety, variety and comfort are all things you can expect as far as kids’ entertainment is concerned, but what’s actually on offer? Here we take a look at the range of things the kids might get up to while they’re aboard to point you in the right direction.

Swimming

Onboard every cruise ship, there’s a swimming pool (what holiday would be complete without one?). While most of them can be used by passengers of all ages, some have smaller splash pools just for kids. Disney and Carnival have pools, waterparks and rides especially for the young ones.

Disney has Nephews’ Splash Zone aboard Disney Magic, a waterpark for kids aged three and under, as well as Nemo’s Reef on Fantasy and Dream. Carnival has WaterWorks, their onboard waterpark which has rides for kids of all ages including DrainPipe, their monster waterslide!

“Royal Caribbean has clubs for different age groups ranging from 0-3 to 15-17-year-olds.”

Kids’ Clubs

Disney has Youth Clubs in the form of Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab where kids can play board games, draw, explore and more. Royal Caribbean has clubs for different age groups ranging from 0-3 to 15-17-year-olds. They offer interactive play, board games, music, movies and sports.

Movies and Stage Entertainment

Aboard cruise ships with cinemas and theatres, there are always shows and films that the kids will love. During the day, some Disney, Royal Caribbean and NCL ships will have screenings of kids’ films, while stage shows for the whole family take place. It’s best to check the daily schedule of entertainment to know for sure what’s on.

Sports

Onboard quite a few ships, there are plenty of sports activities aimed at adults, but the kids won’t miss out on the fun. On NCL’s ships, kids aged between 13 and 17 can join Entourage, a programme on which they can play basketball, rounders and ultimate Frisbee which, aside from being loads of fun, is a great way for them to make new friends.

Fun for Younger Kids

Usually, it’s the youngest kids who are hardest to please and keep quiet while you spend some alone time together. Onboard crèches are available, but for those old enough to think for themselves but too young to go out on their own, what can you do? NCL has Port Play and Late Night Fun Zone for kids between 3-12 years of age.

Edutainment

Edutainment is something that might not be appeal to every kid, but some ships have it covered in case it does! Princess’s Princess Pelicans programme has educational workshops, arts and crafts and t-shirt colouring among other things. Kids are often encouraged to learn a little on shore excursions, too, depending on where they’re going.
