Entertainment

Fun is the name of the game when you’re on a cruise ship. Being hundreds or even thousands of miles away from the daily grind gives you the chance to seize the moment and do as you please.

There was once a time when reading a book, playing chess and just staring at the sea were all you could do on a cruise. Fortunately, those days are over, as there’s no end to all the fun things that you could see and do onboard.

Going to the Cinema

Some cruise ships have onboard cinemas screening some of the latest Hollywood blockbusters as well as art-house productions, kids’ favourites and timeless classics from a bygone age. Remember to get some popcorn before the screening!

Shopping

Most cruise ships will have an array of shops selling everything from perfumes and vintage wine to the latest fashion and toys for the kids. Some ships even have onboard art auctions if you fancy having something to hang up on your wall when you get back home.

Dinner with the Captain

The chance to dine properly is a rare opportunity nowadays, but if you want to hear anecdotes from years of seafaring, then this is for you. You’re also able to enjoy the finest cuisine that the ship has to offer – this really is dining in style.

Sample Local Cuisine

Holidays are all about trying something different and where better to start than sampling dishes you’ve never tried before? If you’re sailing in a specific region such as the Caribbean or Mediterranean, it might be worth seeking out local dishes in some of the specialty restaurants. Who knows, you might be surprised!

Going Swimming

Nowadays, most cruise ships have a swimming pool where you can splash around in the open air. They tend to be busy during summer, but it’s worth taking a dip. On a related note, you might like to try a Jacuzzi out in the evening, especially with friends or your partner.

Catch a Show

The nightlife on most cruise ships is as diverse as it is enthralling. Live music, theatre and even stand-up comedy are commonplace on some luxury liners, as well as the odd magic performance.

Book an Excursion

On some days, cruises often stop at a designated point, usually at a sun-kissed island or nearby landmark. It might be worth going on an excursion, just to see and do something different. Guided tours of landmarks are sometimes also available so you can learn all about the fascinating history.

Take an Art Class

On some cruise ships, it’s possible to take an art lesson and help find your inner Picasso or Monet. You could do painting, clay modelling or just do a few sketches. To give you inspiration, all you need is to look out to sea!

Visit the Casino

For adults only, casinos can help you to feel like a real big-shot! You can play roulette, slot machines, blackjack, poker or even video poker if you’re a little curious. Be careful not to spend your money in one go!

Sit on the Balcony

The balconies of a cruise ship are often the best place to enjoy a great sea view. Offering a little change of pace for those of you who want relaxation more than anything else, it can help you to prepare for a big night.
